Connoisseurship in Colour Diamonds

2017-12-15

Diamonds occur in an array of colours — from pure whites and soft pinks to brilliant hues of purple and red. No matter the colour, each diamond possesses a unique composition of chemical elements that have the power to dictate rarity and charm.
Following our very popular course “Introduction to Diamonds” last academic year, The Young Connoisseurs are now ready to take the next step in appreciation – from clear to colour diamonds. Last month, The Young Connoisseur Club was honoured to invite Mr Nakul to our school to teach us about the wonders of colour diamonds. Based on what we had learnt last year, such as the 4Cs of Diamonds (i.e. carat, colour, clarity and cut), members were taught how to differentiate ‘fancy diamond colour grading’ for three of the most popular colours in the market, namely, yellow, pink and blue.
Our special thanks to the student members of the Multi-Media Unit, who also came to join our fun, and to help us record our experience in handling colour diamonds!
The Young Connoisseurs were learning attentively about colour diamonds from our Indian teacher.
Getting ready for our handling session!
Everyone was very nervous when they got their first diamond.
Hooray! Our S1 student, Jeet Tse (1L), was delighted that she could master the tools so easily!
Who said diamonds are a girl’s best friend only? Look at the joyful face of this young gentleman (John Li, 4P) in our senior form!
Emily Li (2J), our devoted connoisseur member, was searching seriously for the serial number laser-engraved on the tiny diamond.
Let’s compare and share! See who’s the best connoisseur in this activity!
Our special thanks to the advisors and student members of the Multi-Media Unit in joining us to record our colour diamond connoisseurship activity.
