School Rules

As a Christian school, Stewards Pooi Kei College’s mission is to educate students in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Bible, fostering their growth in a nurturing, joyful, and harmonious learning environment. The school regulations are designed to achieve two primary objectives:

  1. Developing Character:  The regulations aim to cultivate students with the virtues exemplified by Christ, including faithfulness, gentleness, goodness, joy, kindness, patience, peace, and self-control.
  2. Promoting Respect: The regulations aim to foster a culture where students learn to love and respect themselves and extend that love and respect towards others.

 

(A) Pooikeinian’s Code of Conduct:

  • I will abide by the law, respect the school’s culture and tradition, protect the school’s reputation, and live up to the expectations of the public as a Pooikeinian.
  • I will respect the Christian faith of the school and all kinds of religious activities.
  • I will show utmost respect for the school, teachers, staff, fellow schoolmates, and the public.
  • I will follow the regulations regarding the use of mobile phones and iPads.
  • I will keep enhancing my information literacy skills, and use information technology in a responsible and ethical manner.
  • I will value school property and take responsibility for my personal belongings.
  • I will comply with the regulations in the laboratories, library and other special rooms.
  • I will attend school, lessons, assemblies and all activities punctually.
  • I will attend the National Flag Raising Ceremony with respect and solemnity.
  • I will be an active learner, engage in class activities, follow the teachers’ instructions, and construct knowledge proactively.
  • I will be kind and polite to others, and use appropriate language in daily life and online communication.
  • I will bring my student handbook and the necessary learning materials to school every day.
  • I will attend to my appearance and manners while at school or in public places. I will comply with the school’s regulations on appearance and uniform.

 

(B) Regulations Concerning School Uniform and Personal Appearance

Appearance and Hairstyle
  • Hair should not touch the shirt collar, ears or eyebrows.
  • Sideburns should not cover half of the ears.
  • Use of hair gel/clay and stylized hair are not allowed.
  • Dyed and permed hair is not allowed.
  • Hair must not be undercut or excessively shaved.
  • Boys must be clean-shaven.
  • Boys are not allowed to have their ears pierced. Ornaments and tattoos are not allowed.
  • Girls must tie their hair neatly in a ponytail if it touches the shirt collar. Only plain black hair pins and hair bands are allowed.
  • The fringe should not reach the eyebrows or even the cheeks.
  • Dyed and permed hair is not allowed.
  • Girls can wear only one pair of earrings on the earlobes.
  • Cosmetic products, ornaments and tattoos are not allowed.
 
 
School UniformSummer

All male students must wear

  • a plain white short-sleeved shirt with a pointed collar and chest pocket. The school badge should be sewn on the left chest pocket.
  • a plain black leather belt and plain black leather school shoes.
  • a plain white undershirt that should not be visible beyond the shirt.

Junior form students must wear

  • light blue trousers.
  • plain white socks without a logo. The length should be at least 1/4 of the calves for both formal and PE uniform.

Senior form students must wear

  • dark blue trousers.
  • black socks without a logo. The length should be at least 1/4 of the calves for both formal and PE uniform.

All female students must wear

  • plain white socks without a logo. The length should be at least 1/4 of the calves for both formal and PE uniform.
  • plain black leather school shoes.
  • a plain white undershirt.

Junior form students must

  • ensure the length of the dress should reach the kneecaps.

Senior form students must wear:

  • a dark blue A-line skirt. The length of the dress should reach the kneecaps. The school badge should be pinned on the dark plain blue tie.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Winter

All male students must wear

  • a plain white long-sleeved shirt with a pointed collar and chest pocket. The school badge should be sewn on the left chest pocket.

  • dark grey trousers and dark grey socks. The length should be at least 1/4 of the calves; dark grey or white socks for PE uniform.

Senior form students must wear

  • dark blue trousers and black socks. The length should be at least 1/4 of the calves for both formal and PE uniform.

JacketA dark blue or plain black down padded jacket is allowed when the Hong Kong Observatory reports a temperature below 13 degrees Celsius after 5 AM.  Girls may also wear P.E. uniform accordingly.
P.E. Outfit

All students must wear the specified P.E. uniform.

Students must wear P.E. sports shorts for P.E. lessons.

A dark blue or plain black long-sleeved shirt is allowed under the P.E. T-shirt during winter.

Sports shoes should be white-based with white shoelaces.

ScarfA dark blue or plain black scarf with a simple design is allowed.
School HolidayStudents should wear formal school uniform, P.E. uniform, or other clothing items approved by the school.

 

(C) Leave Application Procedures

Early Leave
  • An application for early leave with supporting documents should be submitted to the class teachers at least three working days in advance.
  • A parent’s or guardian’s company is necessary if a student needs to leave early due to illness or special circumstances.
Sick Leave
  • Parents should call the General Office (Tel: 2345 4567) by 8:00 am on the day of absence.
  • Students must submit a parent’s letter to the Class Teacher on the first day they return to school after an absence.
  • Students should submit a doctor’s certificate for any sick leave that is for more than one day.
  • For students who have been absent from school on medical grounds during school events, they should submit a parent’s letter together with a valid medical certificate.
Personal Leave
  • A parent’s letter requesting for personal leave (together with the relevant supporting documents) should be submitted to the Class Teachers at least three working days in advance, indicating the reason(s) for the leave concerned.
  • Failure to obtain the school’s approval may result in the student’s absence being considered as truancy, and ‘Leave Without Approval’ may be indicated on the student’s annual report card.
  • Application for leave of absence for family holidays will not be authorized. Requests for leave of absence will only be granted in exceptional circumstances where sufficient justification is given.
  • The school will report student non-attendance to the Education Bureau on the 7th day of the student’s continuous absence regardless of the reason for absence.
International Examinations

This section is applicable to students taking the Non-local Curriculum (NLC):

  • Students retaking the IELTS/IGCSE/IAL Examinations during school hours will not be marked as absent. Nonetheless, prior approval from the school is necessary.
Inter-School Activity
  • Students participating in inter-school activities during school hours will not be marked as absent. Nonetheless, prior approval from the school is necessary.

Remarks:

  1. Students are expected to catch up on any missed schoolwork as soon as possible when they return to school.
  2. Any student who is absent from school without following the above procedures may be considered to have violated school rules.

 

(D) Arrangements under Rainstorm & Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals

(1) Rainstorm Warning Signals

 When the AMBER Warning Signal is in force:

  • The school will carry on with normal operation.
  • Parents should listen to the radio or television announcements concerning the weather, road and traffic conditions.

When the RED or BLACK Warning Signal is in force:

Before 6:00 am

  • Classes will be suspended.
  • Students should stay at home.

From 6:00 am onwards and before 8:00 am

  • Classes will be suspended.
  • The school will be opened to shelter any arriving students until conditions are safe for them to return home.

After 8:00 am

  • Classes will continue.
  • Students will stay at school until the end of the school day when conditions are safe for them to return home. Parents should not rush to pick up their child from the school.

(2) Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals

When the Warning Signal No. 1 or No. 3 is in force:

  • The school will carry on with normal operation.
  • Parents should listen to the radio or television announcements concerning the weather, road and traffic conditions.

When the Warning Signal No. 8 is in force:

  • Classes will be suspended.

 

(E) Lateness

  1. A minor demerit will be given to students who are late for 3 times in a quarter.
  2. Students who are late to the school repeatedly will be arranged to attend the Habit Training Program. Details will be announced in due course.
  3. Students late for 30 minutes or longer will be recorded for “serious lateness”. Students who are late for an hour or more will be considered a truant. Consequences will be given accordingly.
