Scallion Pancakes – 蒽心送暖 @ SPKC UNICEF Club

2024-11-27

The event “Scallion Pancakes 蒽心送暖” was successfully launched on November 27 during lunchtime in the school cafeteria. It was a joy to see students savoring delicious pancakes, enjoying Vitasoy Soya Bean milk, and writing heartfelt messages for their friends—all during a fun and relaxing lunchtime atmosphere. The vibrant energy and laughter made it a memorable experience for everyone involved!

A large number of students eagerly gathered to cook and taste the scallions they had grown, and they discovered that the scallion pancakes were the most delicious they had ever tasted! Principals, teachers, and parents also found the pancakes delightful. This project not only instilled in students the values of commitment, diligence, perseverance, and unity, but it also illuminated the potential for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal 2: No Hunger—demonstrating how growing simple items can make a significant impact on food sustainability.

The spring onions for the scallion pancakes came from the Spring Onions Planting Competition organized by the SPKC UNICEF Club. The club launched a sustainable project focused on growing spring onions. Each class was taught how to grow and care for their onions, which also needed to be named and characterized positively. After three weeks, the awards were announced: the Outstanding Spring Onion Award (for the longest onions), the Most Trendy Spring Onion Award (for the most stylish names and creative character descriptions), and the Super Spring Onion Award (for the healthiest onions overall). One can never imagine the fun all the classes had during the competition—it took a long time to select the awardees!

Below is the video introducing the onions from each class.
