LEWOWA 2025–2026 A Life-Changing Experience of Discovery, Service, and Growth
From 27 June to 5 July 2026, our campus fell quiet as Pooikeinians stepped out of their classrooms for the annual Learning Without Walls (LEWOWA) programmes. Over this special period, they took part in a wide range of local workshops and overseas adventures across 33 programmes.
This year’s LEWOWA was truly transformative. These experiential learning opportunities encouraged students to step beyond their comfort zones, achieve personal breakthroughs, and grow into confident explorers and servant leaders. Here’s a look back at how they learned, served and grew.
Learning by Doing: Bringing Lessons to Life
A major highlight of this year’s LEWOWA programmes was hands-on learning. Instead of just sitting in classrooms, students got to learn through real-life action:
- MathSky: Auckland: Students did not just study maths in a classroom; they actually took the controls and flew a plane in the skies of New Zealand.
- Speak for Justice: Advocacy & Mock Trial Learning Experience: Back at home, students visited real courts and participated in a mock trial. This helped them learn exactly how the legal system works and how to stand up for justice.
- Outward Bound Hong Kong – Teen Explorers: Pushing their physical and mental limits, students engaged in a series of outdoor adventures. From kayaking along the coast and jumping off piers into the water to camping under the stars and hiking through rugged trails, they built deep resilience and learned the true value of teamwork.
- Taiwan Taste of Michelin: A Young Epicurean’s Journey: Students travelled to Taiwan to explore the entire “farm-to-table” food cycle. This programme helped them improve their culinary appreciation, practice critical thinking, and look at sustainable food production from different angles.
Through these hands-on programmes, our students saw that learning becomes much more powerful when they can experience it themselves.
Growing in Empathy and Servant Leadership
LEWOWA programmes are also about looking beyond ourselves and learning how to help communities in need:
A Holistic Ministry to Combat Human Trafficking – Service Learning Programme to Cambodia: Students stepped out of their comfort zones to teach in local classrooms and partner with organisations fighting human trafficking. They witnessed the strength of local women and were deeply moved by the warmth and simple joy of the Cambodian people.
Servant Leader: Explore the Lives in Japanese High Schools: In Japan, our students joined local classrooms, shared cultural activities, and built lasting friendships. By exchanging ideas with their Japanese peers, they learned what it truly means to be a servant leader.
Burning Love Vietnam Social Service Programme: In Vietnam, students dedicated their time to serving local communities. They rolled up their sleeves to help construct local roads, taught primary school students English, and played fun games with the children.
Celebrating Our Achievements: LEWOWA Exhibition Day
To wrap up this incredible journey, students came together for a spectacular campus Exhibition Day. It was a wonderful celebration where they shared what they learned during their experiential learning programmes:
Energetic K-Pop Dance Performance: Students from the Rhythm of Seoul: A K-Pop Star Quest programme lit up the stage of a variety show with a high-energy dance routine, showing off the choreography and teamwork they developed in South Korea.
Drama of Ancient Noble Minds: Bringing their historical journey to life, students from The Spiritual Journey of Ancient Noble Minds: Su Shi and Fan Zhongyan put on a moving drama performance. They dressed in traditional robes and shared the wisdom of these ancient scholars with the audience.
Korean Archer Game Booth: Students from the Birth of a Recurve Archer in South Korea set up an interactive game booth. They taught their schoolmates the basics of archery, sharing the focus, discipline, and patience they practised during their training.
Graffiti Exhibition & Creative Booth: Adding a splash of modern art to the venue, students from the Graffiti Creative Summer Camp displayed their stunning, colourful spray-painted canvases and shared the creative design processes they explored during their camp.
Looking Ahead
The LEWOWA 2025–2026 experiential learning programmes have left a lasting mark on Pooikeinians. Whether they were looking down at the clouds over Auckland, building roads in Vietnam, or performing on stage during our variety show, they have all returned home with a broader view of the world.
We are incredibly proud of this life-changing experience and how much Pooikeinians have grown. We cannot wait to see how they will use what they learned to serve, lead, and inspire others in the future.
