Twenty-eight Pooikeinians participated in a transformative LEWOWA programme in Ho Chi Minh City, exploring cultural heritage, volunteering at orphanages, and engaging in farming practices. The trip offered profound insights, fostered compassion, and created lifelong memories.

Soul of Saigon: Compassion in Action

During the trip, a few days were dedicated to visiting cultural heritage sites, including the Presidential Palace, War Museum, and History Museum. These visits offered profound insights into the impact of war on the Vietnamese people and deepened students’ appreciation for peace. Students also explored notable attractions, such as Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, Ben Thanh Market, Antique Street, and enjoyed a captivating Water Puppet Show, gaining a richer understanding of Vietnamese culture.

The volunteer journey began on Day Two at the Que Huong Charity Centre, where students connected with orphans through games, English lessons, drawing, and bracelet-making activities. Many students brought thoughtful gifts such as candies, books, and T-shirts, spreading joy and kindness to the children.

On Day Three, students stepped out of their comfort zones at Thien Phuoc Orphanage, where they took on the challenges of feeding disabled orphans and cleaning the garden. These heartfelt efforts reflected their empathy, resilience, and commitment to making a difference.

Day Four was dedicated to farming practices, where students learned about the therapeutic benefits of herbs and experienced rice farming firsthand. The day ended with a delicious meal prepared using freshly harvested produce, reinforcing the importance of sustainable living.

This journey was not just a trip but a transformative experience, leaving students with lasting memories, new perspectives, and a strengthened sense of compassion and responsibility.
