STEM SAIL Academy
Students will build a remote-controlled model sailboat in groups of 2-3. They will put theory into practice, by learning about floatation theory, will design, fabricate their RC boat, and will test it in a pool. They will also learn how to use handy tools, which is helpful to apply in daily life. After all, the program links up academic knowledge to real-world application, and learn to find a solution by try-and-error.
Experiential learning activities of this programme include
- design and draw special geometric shapes by using different drawing tools
- floatation experiment and theory
- design of boats, sailboat components
- calculate the required volume of the boat
- start building the hull and components
- understand the servo and remote receiver
- installation and linking up with the boat
- build the top deck
- test run in a pool
