Gary Ng - Graduate, 2018
I am Gary Ng, graduate of 2018 Hong Kong Dragon Boat Team Representative is my other identity since S4, a dream that I always crave for. I struggled a lot when stepping onto this journey. Academic was my concern, because time management and academic performance are crucially needed to be balanced. The frequent ongoing training, strong determination as well as the reluctance from parents deterred me from time to time.
Throughout this journey, I have to say SPKC teachers are my fosterer and important people in supporting my HKG life. Especially Ms YK Yum – my PE teacher and my HKG teammate! This is a precious experience participating with her in the World Championship. She supported me all the way through the training and competition. As I am the youngest one among all my adult teammates, my performance was once been casted in doubt that I lost confidence. She believed in me, reminded of the hardship that we have been through. She clings to the hope that I can nail this. Not only on Dragon Boat stage but also towards the struggle between Dragon Boat and academic. Ms Yum motivated me to pursue my dream, to fight for my goal relentlessly. She is not solely a PE teacher to me, but a MENTOR. Other subject teachers are supportive as well, even though I lacked behind in academic. Without a second, they squeezed their personal time arranging tutorial for me, answering my questions and helped me to catch up the progress.
Apart from academic, the encouragement of SPKC sports development further allowed me to switch from an athlete into an organizer. Being the Sports Association Chairperson, SPKC allowed me to seize the opportunity, stood up as a leader to arrange sports competition for Pooikeinian. Throughout the year, every PE teacher coordinated with my team, discussed the plan in holding a competition and ultimately come up the entire competition. Not only the generic skills that I have acquired from doing the administration task, but also the lesson that my PE teachers have taught us. For instance, improvisation and management towards unexpected incidence. Thereby, SPKC has cultivated me to become a future leader.
My dream doesn’t end with my graduation. I have so much to look forward to in my future and SPKC has equipped me well to cope with the challenges I’ll meet.
