Cultural Exchange and Friendship: BFA Students Visit SPKC
2026-03-31
On the morning of 31 March 2026, our Pookeinians welcomed a group of students from Black Forest Academy (BFA) — an international Christian boarding school — for a day of cultural exchange and bonding.
To break the ice and help everyone feel more comfortable, the day began with an ice-breaking activity. Students from both schools got to know one another through a lively game of “Big Wind Blows” (大風吹). The game gave everyone the chance to introduce themselves, share a little about their cultural backgrounds, and move around while laughing together.
Following the icebreaker, our students presented a well-prepared sharing session. It started with an introduction to Hong Kong and its iconic foods. The session remained highly interactive, as our Pookeinians asked the BFA students about their experiences in Hong Kong so far — such as which local foods they had tried and whether they enjoyed them. They also offered enthusiastic recommendations to help their guests make the most of their stay.
Our students then continued sharing about Hong Kong culture, focusing on traditional Chinese festivals celebrated by Hong Kong people. They explained the common traditions, associated foods, and historical backgrounds, helping to demystify and promote Chinese intangible cultural heritage. Finally, they introduced life at SPKC, highlighting the school’s multi-faceted education approach. They showcased various educational opportunities, athletic events, co-curricular activities, and the LEWOWA programme. Engaging discussions with the BFA students revealed similarities in both schools’ holistic approaches to education, as well as differences in daily schedules and routines.
After the fruitful sharing session, our students took their guests on a guided tour of the school campus, showcasing its extensive facilities, including the well-equipped laboratories and subject-specific rooms. Pleasant conversations continued throughout the tour as new friendships began to form. The visit concluded with a shared lunch at a nearby local restaurant, where the BFA students experienced the Cantonese tradition of “yum cha” firsthand. Over the meal, the students engaged in lively discussions about school life and bonded over shared interests.
Through open dialogue and enthusiastic participation from everyone, the day successfully broadened horizons and fostered greater cultural understanding, resulting in a memorable and meaningful visit for all.
