Student Fellowship Inauguration
20 November 2009
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. (John 13:14) The Principal, Pastor Foon, Pastor Ada and teachers washed student committee’s feet to devolve the willingness of serving others to them. They are expected to humbly serve their fellow students, remembering that Jesus is their role model.
The inauguration began with worship led by student committee members. Then the Principal advised and encouraged the student committee to try their very best to serve others whole-heartedly. Knowing that it would take time and energy to do so, Mr. Yuen encouraged the committee members to be patience and not to give up easily.
Pastor Ada shared the message behind the act of feet washing and the story about Jesus washing his apostles’ feet. Jesus served his apostles like a servant, which has set an example that we also need to be humble to serve others.
In the feet washing ritual, 13 committee members were sitting on a chair, and the Principal, Pastor Foon, Pastor Ada and all Spiritual Formation Team teachers knelt down besides them and washed their feet. As the theme of student fellowship is “Blessing” (Romans 12:14), teachers blessed the committee members with a prayer finally. The ritual is meaningful and touching that most students ended up in tears.
