SPKC Leader’s Forum – the Life Story of a 3-finger Pianist

2024-01-04

Every year, the school invites renowned guest speakers to give a series of talks, sharing their expertise and inspiring students to pursue their passions. We are delighted to have invited Dr. Wong Oi Yan, Connie, to share her story with us.

Dr. Connie Wong, who was born with only three fully formed fingers, underwent orthopedic surgeries every year from the age of six months to thirteen years old. Despite her condition, she developed a passion for music at a young age. Dr. Wong was admitted to the Department of Music at CUHK, where she majored in piano performance for her tertiary education. She then pursued further studies in the United States, earning master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In 2010, she was selected as one of the ‘Ten Outstanding Young Persons’ of Hong Kong.

Through her musical performances and inspiring speech, Pooikeinians learned how her Christian faith helped her overcome the physical challenges in her life. Her physical disability at birth did not limit her dreams; instead, God poured His grace into her life through her unique creation, enabling her to pass on blessings to others who have had similar experiences.
